Grocery stores, butchers, cheese, local produce

  • Minimarket: In Clavesana, just in front of the Cantina Clavesana and the local bank (with ATM). Open from 9 to 12.30 and from 15.30 to 19.30 and on Sunday mornings. Closed on Wednesdays. Small shop but surprisingly large selection of groceries. And very friendly staff.

  • Local Market, Carrü, Via Circonvallazione 6: Open from 8.30 to 13.00 and from 15.30 to 19.30. Saturday open from 8.30 to 19.30 without closing for lunch. Open Sunday morning 8.30 - 13.00. Great selection - meat, cheese, bread - local specialities...

  • Ins Mercato, Carrü, Via Langhe 4, Open from 9 to 12.30 and from 15.30 to 19.30.

  • Coop hypermarket: open every day, including Sundays. Mondovicino shopping center: Open from 08 to 20.

  • There are three butchers/butchers in Carrü and they are all very good. Easy to find, it's a small village and very nice to walk around. You will find bakers, pastry shops, pizzerias, restaurants, a tourist office etc.

  • This area is famous for its wine, but also for hazelnuts. There is a really good producer not far from here called Cascina Masueria http://www.cascinamasueria.it. Toasted hazelnuts and chocolate and hazelnut creams would drive Nigella Lawson crazy :-) They sell from the house.

  • Salami is also a specialty here. There is an excellent producer in our municipality named is Chiapella. https://www.chiapellasalumi.it/it/. You can find their vacuum-packed cured meats at the Macceleria right in front of the Carru church. Nice gifts and a great souvenir from the area, plus wine of course. Advised!

  • Local and delicious cheese: The village Murazzano is famous for its cheese and if you visit Valentina at Il Forletto (https://forlettomurazzano.com/), you can taste varius cheeses, learn about the production process, meet the sheeps :-) and of course bring home both cheese and ice cream. Valentina speaks very well English.

  • Delicacies and “apri cena”: At Number 10 in Belvedere Lange (https://number10.it/) a local couple have developed what we would call an excellent “gourmet site”. Home baked bread, cheeses, ham, salami, pasta, marmelades, wine etc..etc.. You can also have a drink and / or a mall mel of meat and cheeses (the “apri cena”) - and they also recently started a restaurant. You can sit outside in the garden or inside the tastefully restored building. Just 10 minutes by car or a nice e-bike ride from Ferrarotti.

Markets – cheeses, meats, fish, fruit, vegetables, clothes, kitchen utensils and ….

  • Carrü on Thursday morning. Nice smaller market with good fruit and veg selections, everyday clothes and tools / equipment too.

  • Cuneo on Tuesday, opening in the morning. Very big and very nice market – in a very nice city. Opening early in the morning and closing around 2pm.

  • Mondovì on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Large selections and good atmosphere.

  • Dogliani on Tuesday morning.

  • Alba on Saturday, opening early in the morning and closing around 2pm.

…and there are small and large markets on different days and in different cities. Please ask us if you want more information or check "markets in Piedmont Italy" on the Internet. There you can find every little village and market days.

Shopping

There are many interesting shops for shoes, clothes etc. in almost all villages. Mondovì is a small town, very authentic and beautiful, with many nice (and a bit expensive) shops in the pedestrian area. Taking the funicular up to the historic center is also a great experience.

Cuneo is a much larger city with more selections and a large pedestrian area surrounded by historic buildings (the city was founded in 1198).

Saluzzo is a little further away (1 hour by car), but worth a visit. A very well preserved medieval town where market days are Wednesday and Saturday (morning).

In the large Mondovicino Outlet Village just 20 minutes from Ferrarotti (on the road to Mondovì) you will find a vast selection of shops. Open from 10 to 20 every day, including Sundays.

Antiques markets

There are several antique markets in Piedmont - normally on Sunday on a fixed Sunday each month.

One of the largest and most famous is the Gran Balon in Turin. Every second Sunday of the month. https://www.balon.it/it/ .

Another large market is the Cherasco antiques market. It is open every first Sunday of the month from April to December - except July and August when it is closed. In Mondovì there is a smaller one which is the fourth Sunday of the month.

There are big and small antique markets and outlets many places in Piedmont. You will find information on the internet - or by asking us :-).
